burningman, year #9

you know the drill... here are pics I took mostly on just one day. most are mine, except for the art cars, which are borrowed from others.
some of our members on our 40-ft tower
fixing one of 3 flat tires
 cecil chills at pink camp
randy helps construct 'red bar', another Boise camp
 our tower, the "altitude lounge"
we had a big storm, luckily I was set up and had a big awning. these camp mates were checking our electrical boxes and drying off a bit. 4 people were struck by lightening, thousands were stuck in traffic
our double shower and evaporation pond
Julie gets her first shower in a week
 james cleans our common area
getting cooled off at a dance club
i'm zip-lining during our outing to the bman airport to pick up plane parts for one of our pilots
 skate camp pit stop

atlas on the back of our art car, the playapus
chris gets ready to head out to the maid brigade
pit stop for snow cones, dusting along the way

one of my favorite camps was incredibly basic, it was 'sunset camp' and simply had seating situated for a great view of the sunset.
camp-mate jayme choses to watch the sunset upside-down

we had a pole in camp, not that any of us knew how to use it
 boise friends covered in dust
 bok choy camp
great night out playing on art, behind us is a field of inter-active light pads in the ground
randy at '7 deadly gins' camp. the giraffe vibrated
outside the temple
inside the temple, every year this is used to memorialize those we love that have passed. it is incredibly moving and powerful. I remembered my people; grandparents, pam, tom, and unfortunately this year, added eric, pat, winnie, and henry.
cecil and sam on the playapus
greg brought his own art to the playa, a water main cover. he put it next to a bank of porta-potties, and we used the playapus to drive it into the ground. it took us several passes, but we finally got it

do you think any one out of 65,000 will notice?

miles away we found this haiku station. as long as you wrote haiku on your post card, this camp would stamp and mail it
 writing haiku
at the sunrise bar, open from 4-7 am, we gave away drinks off of our playapus to passersby

atlas and cecil spent most of our journey coaxing cute girls over for 'drive-by kisses'

many successes
this interactive piece required 10 people to pedal very hard to make the art spin fast enough for the strobe light to hit it properly and create an illusion of a girl running up a wall and doing a back-flip off of a bar

 cruising in a storm
wonderful mobile art piece, it could accommodate 6 people laying down on a vibrating base with light show, total hoot
 this is how it rolls
 our camp with playapus
 dj brad on the tower
looking from out tower to the red bar camp
my trailer and broken shade structure, after a storm
burning a massive sculpture at dawn
 building the man
 fighting at thunderdome
wedding night- high on the tower, it was a challenge to deliver the ceremony and stay balanced, it was a long way down
dan and Arielle's bike with cans

when one door opens... another closes

molly holds one of sam's dragonflies, they were all connected wirelessly to change colors together

 chris and Christian do battle

at one of the dance camps, about 3 am

my new favorite art car. it took 12-ft ladders to climb aboard, the teapots had beautiful old wallpaper, chandeliers, and tables

a bunch of sound cars gather for a giant dance party, about 3,000 people

making wedding prayer flags for the pending nuptials between 2 campmates
 morning bloody mary's
our buddy graham dj's for a good crowd at a sound camp
 berto and wally, boise firemen

 chillin'
the night of the burn, fire dancers entertain for an hour or so before the man is torched, the crowd is chaos unchained
 pyrotechnics start it off

 our crew watches it burn
the following night, the temple burns, the crowd is still and silent

firemen (all volunteers) stand watch until morning and beyond
